Lost wax casting is the cornerstone technique for creating detailed, durable, and reproducible metal pieces, used by artisans and major designers alike.
Over the course of this class, you will be guided through the fascinating lost-wax casting process from start to finish. The journey begins with sculpting your design in specialized jeweler's wax, where you'll learn to carve, shape, and add fine detail. You'll then prepare your wax model for its transformation, embedding it in an investment flask to create a mold.
The true magic happens at the casting station, where you'll witness the alchemy of molten metal flowing into the cavity left by your "lost" wax.
The final stage brings your piece to life through finishing techniques: sawing off sprues, filing, sanding, and polishing your casting to a professional shine.
You will leave with:
- A solid understanding of the lost-wax casting workflow.
- Your own custom-designed, finished piece of jewelry (e.g., a ring, pendant, or charm).
- The foundational skills to continue exploring casting on your own.
This class is perfect for:
- Absolute beginners with no metalworking experience.
- Sketch artists and designers wanting to translate 2D ideas into 3D objects.
- Jewelry enthusiasts looking to expand their skills beyond beadwork or wire wrapping.
- Anyone seeking a deeply satisfying and magical creative process.
