While the etching process is the same for both copper based alloys and sterling silver, the etching solution differs depending on the metal you choose. For this One Day Workshop, students will be working in Sterling Silver flat sheet.

Choosing Your Metal:

For sterling silver etching, I recommend using sheet metal no thinner than 22g, with 18g–20g being ideal. You can choose any size you like, but also recommended is at least  1" x 6"

Once you’ve decided what your end goal is:

YOU'LL NEED TO CHOOSE A DESIGN AND SEND IT TO BETH AT THE EMAIL ADDRESS BELOW & BRING YOUR OWN SHEET METAL TO THE WORKSHOP!

Preparing Your Design

To personalize your etched pieces, you’ll need to find patterns or images you’d like to transfer onto the metal. A great way to find patterns is to search Google for “black and white [your preferred style] pattern” (e.g., mid-century modern, floral, geometric). Save your selected images as JPEG files and send them to Beth via email or text before the workshop. This way, Beth will have them ready to scale to fit your design.
